Natural Hair Care

16 March 2011
Ciao Chicklets,

As you all know, I am a natural woman--when it comes to my hair--rocking a fro now for the past 9 months after cutting off three years of loc growth because of my move to Italy--sad day that--however I am enjoying not having the monthly maintenance of the locs. What you may not know is that I have a disorder called eczema on my scalp which causes lots of dry skin and flaking on my scalp and after many years of embarrassing snow on my clothes I decided to go in search of remedies.

Me 18 months into growing my locs, March 2009

Of course most of the remedies included steroidal cream or sulfur which both can be detrimental to the body when used in large quantities on the skin. After being frustrated with the remedies and being on my natural health kick, I decided to revamp my search to add natural, home remedies.

These remedies help with dandruff and psoriasis as well. Altho, it does not cure any of these ailments, it does control and sooth the scalp which can become inflamed over time due to these conditions.

Below is my recipe for an oil treatment for eczema, dandruff or psoriasis. It is fantastic and it helps sooth my scalp a lot. I hope you all try it and give me some feedback. Enjoy.

Lavender Tea Tree Oil treatment

1/2 cup of Jojoba Oil (or Coconut oil)
1/4 cup of Apple Cider Vinegar
10 drops of tea tree oil
5 drops of pure lavender oil
1 tablespoon of chamomile tea leaves (optional)

Explanation

Jojoba Oil
Jojoba Oil is an oil that is the  closest to the natural oil humans produce. It is light and gets pore deep

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is a light weight oil, great for skin and hair and it  has healing properties and smells fantastic. I personally prefer coconut oil esp. in the spring and summer

Lavender Oil

Lavender Oil is used for its aromatherapy properties as well as for soothing inflamed skin.

Tea Tree Oil

Tea Tree is a natural antiseptic/antifungal. kills bacteria and some fungi and soothes irritated skin as well. However do not overuse it, it has a tendency to dry out your skin.

Apple Cider Vinegar

ACV has many healing properties, including healing candida--which causes eczema and dandruff--break down fat, sooth allergies and inflamed skin. Its great stuff once you get past the smell

Chamomile Leaves

Chamomile is used simply for its soothing properties. It helps sooth the flaky scalp and dry skin and it moisturizes.

I look forward to hearing back from you guys on how this formula works. Don't be afraid to tweak it to your needs. I usually put it in a spray bottle and spray directly on my scalp at night and wrap my head and wash it out in the morning for maximum benefits but use it according to your needs as I said above.

Good shopping and baking! :D
