"Serica Via," Lattes and Lipstick Handcrafted Jewelry Preview S/S 2013

16 December 2012

320575_501865513177236_2073774215_n

I have been working tirelessly on Lattes and Lipstick, trying to get the site up and running where I want it to be. Scouring the internet for notable women and present them to you. I have three major interviews coming up over the next two months and I cannot wait to show these ladies off.

At times, I feel as if I am burning both ends of the wick, but I am so enjoying my life right now and all of the projects that I am working on. At the moment, I have been ordering the hell out of beads and pendants on Etsy, preparing for the Spring/Summer Jewelry line for L+L. My first line this Fall, did fairly well but I was just getting my toes wet.

In fact, I will be selling some items this Saturday at the Daejeon Christmas Bazaar. I am very excited about that as well.

This Spring I will be going all out. The line that I am creating is called "Serica Via" and it is based off  the points that were along the Silk Road. There will be a lot of ethnic elements  with a twist. I decided to create art this time, to create a line that I would personally wear and not necessarily what I think people want to wear.

Here is a preview--there will be sooo much more-- of what's going to be in my kit soon.. Goodie goodie gum drops....

Notable Women: Janaina Englemann and Casa Del Pino

12 December 2012

What do you get when you mix a childhood home on acres of land surrounded by 120 olive trees and a leaning pine tree, reminiscent of the Tower of Pisa in, well, Tuscany? Casa del Pino, a lovely, quaint B+B on the hills of Tuscany between Lucca and Florence.

Janaina, born to a German father and Brazilian mother in Germany, then raised in Tuscany, Italy, along with her Czech Republic born, German raised husband, Marek, decided to take her childhood home and the place they joined their lives together and turn it into a beautiful bed and breakfast.

La Familia

I can hear you now, "But T.S. there are plenty of B&Bs in Tuscany what makes this one sooo different?"

Well, Janaina and her husband restored most of the furniture on the property which was purchased by her grandmother in the 1920s.There are four double rooms, 1 single room and a suite available. Each room has a private bathroom attached to it, making this property perfect for destination weddings.

The property is located in Colle di Buggiano near the Montecantini Terme and is surrounded by 120 olive trees that she and her family use to produce olive oil that is sold on site and used in their delicious breakfast meals every morning.

Speaking of breakfast, you can choose from four types of breakfast that is served fresh every morning and is included in the price. You can have your pick of Brazilian, German, Italian or American styled breakfast for which J and incorporated will prepare fresh the next morning for you, served with wines from the Chianti region of Italy nearby. In fact, each morning you can experience a different style of breakfast while you are there. The owners speak German, English, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese and some Czech.

During the warmer months, you can sit on the veranda by the garden or go swimming in the outdoor pool in the back. Or take a stroll through the olive groves. You could also take a 20 minute drive south to Lucca, or 30 minute drive north to Florence. Or perhaps you fancy a 45 minute jaunt East to the Mediterranean and Adriatic seas?  All of these places are also accessible by train. Whatever you decide, the melodious landscape of the region will leave you breathless. It is perfect for a getaway to just rest, calm the soul, heal the soul or just plain write what's in the soul. Have your own "Under the Tuscan Sun" or "Eat, Pray, Love" moment, I know I will.  I am definitely looking forward to visiting next year for a few days.

Rates are from: €60 -€130 a night. These rates include breakfast, high speed internet and tranquility.  For more information visit Casa Del Pino.

Fashion #Trending: Fall 2012/13, Khaki

09 December 2012
I am sure when you think of the word "Khaki" you are thinking about this:

or this:

However, this fall, khaki is taking on a new image. Khaki is one of the most rebranded color of the season. It has taken on a new leaf. It's sexier, classier and swankier and it sure as hell doesn't resemble military uniforms.

Check out these fabulous khaki pieces I have picked out. Don't be afraid to mix khaki with reds, oxbloods, navy, black or brown. It is practically a neutral. So have fun with it..

P.S. If you can't see yourself wearing this lovely shade in your clothing, try wearing it on your skin as an eyeliner, eyeshadow, or nail varnish.

Here are my Top 10 Must Haves of F/W 2012-13

Pagentry, 10 Beauty Must Haves

1. Korres Lip Butter is a great way to chase away those winter cracks in your lips. Smooth your lips with a shea butter infused product free from parabens, synthetic fragrances, sulfates and a whole of harmfuls ingredients. Did I mention it's tinted? You know a quick to add some color to your lips without all the fuss of applying lip gloss and lipstick?

2. Chapped Hands by CO Bigelow, is a great way to keep your hands moisturized during the season. This is specially formulated to heal cracked skin.

3. Fresh Soy Face Cleanser is a great way to clean your face and great skin starts with a great skin care regiment. Soy is not good to ingest--it's high in estrogen--but it's fantastic for the skin because it is rich in amino acids which is fantastic for cell turnover. It also has soy proteins promote moisture retention, elasticity, and firmness. The rosewater balances and tones the skin and cucumber extract calms the skin.

4. Cleopatra in New York Nail Varnish is a festive way to get the season started. Its gold flecks and khaki tones are great for all skin tones

5. Make Up Forever Navy Blue Eyeliner is a great way to go smoky with a twist. Why choose black when navy blue makes your brown eyes pop. It goes with everything.

6. Strumpet Lip Tar is a great way to go red without actually going red. Its fuchsia which is great for all skin tones especially yellow. It's bright but not overwhelming and perfect for those anti-colorist.

7. Wild Thing Lipstick, Iman is a bourdeaux lip stain that is great to tap into your dark side and celebrate the most popular color of the fall season, Oxblood. This color is great for those again who want to try color but is afraid to. This is the best way to do it. Bourdeaux is sexy and moody and it looks like wine stained lips and there is nothing sexier than red wine.

8. Etrusque Eyeshadow, gold eyeshadow is hot hot hot this season and we all know gold looks amazing on brown skin.

9. Faux Lashes, oh yeah, the 60s are back and eyelashes is another way to put on your best face, literally. Extend those lashes and bat them at unsuspecting passerby's and see how the men eat out the palm of your hands.

10. Scandal Eyes Mascara, so maybe you don't want to take the time apply some lashes, well, here's your deliverer. Scandal Eyes Mascara give you lift, length and fullness. It's like faux lashes in a bottle.

This list is perfect, but make sure to tweak it for your own personal needs and until next time, toodles!

Featured Women: The Wonder World of Bibi van der Velden

In this collaboration with L&L Journal, I was asked to bring attention to the world of Dutch arts & design. It is with great pleasure that I start my writing series with a fascinating young lady, the talented Dutch jewelry designer, Bibi van der Velden. My approach to jewelry is very intimate and personal. I believe that each piece of jewelry you wear should show off your personality and your individuality in this world. It should make a statement of who you are. Each piece should show passion, affirmation, growth, and life after all. I find all that in Bibi's wearable works of art. From the first time I discovered her collection and laid my eyes on her pieces, I felt an instant connection, a revival of my childhood and memories of my youth.

When it comes to my fascination with her jewelry collection in particular, I may need to go back in time to explain it. I was born in Mozambique in Southern Africa. The sea, the warm rich Indian Ocean, is a part of me. I started to develop my interest in jewelry at an early age and one of my favorite hobbies was to walk along the sandy beach for hours in search of perfect shells and other sea "accessories" to make my own jewelry pieces at home. I would always wait for the fishermen to return to land with natural pearls. I remember the enthusiasm of waiting for hours. I remember the feeling of having those little pearls in my hands and the expectation of what I was going to be able to create. Time passed by and other interests came into my life but the passion for handmade jewelry stayed very deep.

Bibi’s jewelry has an inner soul. There is poetry in it. In all the material she uses there is a reminder of mother earth. Our planet. It makes us aware of all the natural beauty around us. She uses metallics without losing their essence and showing us the connection between natural resources and humans is possible.

I suggest you check for yourself and admire her stunning collections at her website: http://www.bibivandervelden.com/

Femme Fatale: Singer Songwriter Rebecca Jordan and Giveaway

05 December 2012
Rebecca Jordan came to my attention when I was sent a link to her latest video "Eve" and I was hooked.
According to her Press Release, Rebecca is originally from Ohio. She has written for such notables as Kelly Clarkson, John Legend and has co-written 5 songs for Alice Smith. Her sound has been influenced by Aretha Franklin, The Cure, and Tom Petty.

"Rebecca is the 2010 recipient of the Abe Olman Award from the Songwriters Hall of Fame, a 2010 NPR Mountain Stage New Song Finalist and a 2011 Independent Music Award Nominee for her self released Souvenir EP."

Her sultry sound is reminiscent of the early rockabilly age of music circa the late 1960s. The Beatles-esque song, "G'Morning" gives me the urge to sit in a flowery meadow and write in my diary and daydream about love. "Anchor" has a doo-wop sound and could easily fit in the rock/blues era of the late 1950s. "Asphalt" has a Stevie Wonder circa 1970s sound and "Happy" makes you well, happy. "Eve" brings back memories of smoky bars with jukeboxes playing Janis Joplin. There is an earthiness and whimsy to Rebecca's sound, but every song has a story to tell. This girl is definitely a rising star and for those seeking independent singers that are not yet mainstream, you should check out Rebecca's album.

Shh by Sadie was founded by Sadie Hawker of Wales, who begin dabbling in jewelry design to while away her time after moving with her fiance to New Zealand a few years ago.

She has a zest for unique pieces and bright colors and has had the fortune to have her jewelry grace a few glossies and the skin of many NZ celebrities.

I love her use of textures and items that pop. She has a fantastic eye for design, color and trends. With her love for fashion jewelry and design, Sadie is definitely making waves in the art world in her own way.

Spotlight: Maria T

Founder of Silver Town Art

“What inspired me to get involved in the jewellery business is the great cultural background of silversmiths of the area. The whole city of Ioannina has a characteristic, artistic atmosphere that derives from this long history. I feel strongly that this significant tradition of processing silver in the small town of Ioannina needs to be preserved and enhanced, which is my first motive apart from delivering unique, sophisticated jewellery.”
