Homemade Chocolate Honey Face Mask

09 March 2011
Goodday Chicklets,

As promised I am bringing a homemade recipe for your skincare needs because great makeup begins with great skincare. Beauty truly is only skin deep and what you do to your skin determines its longevity. How it ages over time. I find that women who pay thousands of dollars on botox --please don't do this. It is poison you are pumping into your skin and no one REALLY knows the long term effects-- permanently freeze their faces into masks which is very unattractive an abnormal. What makes us unique and beautiful is our ability to show our emotions on our faces, not to mention being a makeup artist and baby photographer, women tend to look more beautiful when they allow themselves to age gracefully--screw what society says... There are other ways to prevent acne, control aging that are in nature.

Nature is our greatest gift. We do not need the chemicals that we use in abundance today to treat our skin, everything we need can be found in the grocery store, in our kitchens and in our gardens. I myself went natural--hair wise--seven years ago and there was no turning back. In the last year I have been concentrating on going natural with my skin and hair products. Next week I will write a post on natural products to use for your hair.

Another obvious fact for healthy skin is to drink plenty of water, lay off the sugar and eat lots of leafy green veggies and red and blue fruits. They are high in antioxidants and amazing for the face and body. And for the love of god, stop fake tanning in the tanning beds and outside. It is good to get about 30 minutes of sun per day for Vitamin D but to actually bake yourself like a rotisserie chicken is just not healthy or smart. And no SMOKING!!! These are obvious things that you should already know but I feel a need to reiterate it.

Today I have a recipe for a homemade Chocolate Honey Face Mask. The wonderful thing about this is it is guilt free, smells amazing and fantastic for your skin. Honey combats acne because it kills bacteria on the face and in the pores and chocolate is packed with antioxidants and frees the skin of free radicals which causes damage to the skin. The oatmeal in the mask soothes, moisturizes and gently exfoliates the skin. It is recommended for sensitive skin as well.

So gather some girlfriends and have a facial party. Make it fun but it is worth making the products yourself because the products you buy in the grocery store all have some form of chemicals in them to preserve or keep the products together.  You can also use this mask for your entire body for exfoliating dead skin as well. So without further ado, happy masking!

1/3 cup of cocoa powder

this is here just for sadistic reasons :D

1/4 cup of honey, 2 tablespoons of heavy cream (or sour cream), 3 teaspoons of oatmeal powder

Ingredients:

1/3 cup of (pure) cocoa powder
1/4 cup of honey
2 tablespoons of heavy cream or sour cream (I like greek yogurt)
3 teaspoons of oatmeal powder

(European format)

79 ml of (pure) cocoa powder
59 ml of honey
30 ml of heavy cream (etc from above)
15 ml of oatmeal powder

Directions:
Mix all the ingredient until the mass in consistent. Apply on the face, gently massaging it so that oatmeal can start exfoliating the dead skin cell layer. Leave it on for about 20 minutes and rinse off with lukewarm water.
