Beauty of the Week Parminder Nagra

23 April 2012

This beautiful British born Indian actress got her big role start in 2002's Bend it Like Beckham--I saw the movie 3 times in the theatre in NYC Times Square AMC--starring other ingenues Kiera Knightley and Archie Panjabi. She played the role of the football and Beckham obsessed Jesminder. Jesminder was raised in a traditional Panjabi Sikh family whom did not believe that women should play football or any sport for that matter. The epitome of being a good woman was knowing how to cook good dahl and getting high marks in school to get into university. The movie chronicles Jesminder's attempts to keep her traditional family and her love for football separate.

The movie which was a transcontinental success shined a big spotlight on the young actress which propelled her into cross-Atlantic career and her 6 year stint on ER. Her role ended in 2009 when the show ended and she was picked up for the new show Alcatraz. She is amazing at playing very complex characters who are far different from what you see on the surface. I believe her star is still on the rise and we will hopefully see more of her in the future. Later in the week I will do an exclusive Makeup Basic for women of S.E. Asian descent.
