70s Urban Chic Fall 2011

15 November 2011

The air is crisp and the leaves are bursting colors of rust, goldenrod and brown signifying that Autumn is here and just as the physical seasons have changed, fashion has also transitioned into another season.

Usually Autumn fashion is riddled with dark somber colors, heavy fabrics and crisps lines but this season we are bringing in deeper hued brights and beautiful jewel tones to spice it up a bit.

And as they always say, nothing every goes out of style it always returns even better. This A/W 2011 we are seeing a nod toward 70s urban style, Studio 54 and Bohemian Chic.

70s Urban Chic was a response to Woodstock, rock 'n' roll and freedom movements all over the world. It saw the creation of bell bottom jeans, pussybow blouses and velvety blazers along with stunning platform wedge heels, thank you Ferragamo.

Studio 54 made its mark in the late 70s and was all about extravagance; fur wraps and coats, mini skirts, floor length chiffon dresses a la the 1930s and sequins.

And lastly, bohemian chic aka Hippie chic, has never truly gone out of style, it usually pops in summer fashion but this year the fashion industry has figured out a way to incorporate it into the cooler months ahead.

Whatever your style is, there is a movement for you this fall. You can go from day time casual to night time fun just by adding a cropped blazer and smokey eye or red lip.

Fall is the season to make it sexy by covering it up and leaving almost everything to the imagination.

How to dress-Aries

09 July 2011

Good morning chicklets!

I know it has been quite some time since I have written a blog post. It is not on purpose I promise you. My poor baby Renaissance--my Macbook Pro--has been in the shop and at the moment I am working on my friend's computer until mine return.

The good news is I have been coming up with some cool posts for you guys over the last two weeks and I have decided to start a series on how to dress according to your zodiac sign and a few other things.

My friend and I have been researching astrological charts and the colors that are fitting for each sign because I am creating and designing a zen space for her home and it got me thinking that maybe we could apply this theory to style and dress at times. So today I  am starting the series off with my sign, the first sign of the zodiac, the baby, the leader, the General, the go-getter, Aries!

This sign is the head first, me first, trail blazing sign of the zodiac. We are born leaders although most times we only want to lead ourselves into the night and away from the fire we just created at the bar. We usually leap before looking and blaze our own paths. In fact we are good at starting things but never actually completing them. We are trendsetters and the go to person in our groups of friends and we tend to know everyone or at least every one tends to know us. For most people, the color red inspires hunger, anxiousness, anger, or lust. It represents power and sometimes oppression but to an aries, it is soothing to our psyche and our souls. When we are in a tizzy--which only lasts for about 5 seconds, staring at the color red calms us. So the colors for the sign are red and white.

So enjoy these boards that I put together for Aries.

Spring Trend 2011--Red-Orange White and Gold

06 April 2011
Good morning chicklets,

So much is going on in my little world that today I will bring you two posts. I have to postpone the Makeup Basics for black women with olive undertones for tomorrow because I finally received the pics from my latest photo shoot and I think you will LOVE THEM... So those will go up later. For now I am bring you another spring trend.. COLOR!!.. Yes we are saying goodbye to the heavy colors and saying hello to vibrant happy colors and metallics.. Today's trend report is all about RED!! Now, I am a bit biased about this color because it is my favorite color in the whole world. Red just rocks! So without further ado, I present to you red featuring gold and white. :D

White jeans are alla moda this spring so if you do not have a pair you might want to invest in one. I love white jeans they are very springy to me and they can be dressy or casual. And no white does not make you look bigger if you wear it correctly or choose the correct silhouette. And Bell bottom boot cut looks good on everyone. And of course a spring/summer staple--espadrilles. Every girl should have a pair, the blue nail polish is a must have spring AND bonus it is the complementary color of orange (red/orange):

1. Silk Safari Shirt, Madewell
2. White Boot Cut Jean, Karen Millen
3. Bianca Espadrille, Nine West
4. Barbados Blue Nail Lacquer, Essie
5. Animal Clutch, Ninewest
6. Twisted Metal Cuff Gold, Lori's Shoes
7. La Vie 969G Necklace, La Vie Parissiene
8. Flower Cocktail Ring, Luz Elena

Makeup Board for fair to medium skin-- Smokey Eyes and Coral lips

Makeup Board for med-dark to deep dark skin, Smokey Eyes and Coral Lips

I decided to go with coral lips because the coral complements the red shirt. It does not overshadow it. I did not want to use a red lip because it would have been too much red and a nude lip would have been a disservice to the red, so I settled on a color that is vibrant on its own but that is willing to take a back seat when paired with a equally vibrant color. Again, I hope today's trend boards have inspired you. A dopo!
