Health Kick: Spicy Guacamole Recipe

30 July 2013
Being a native of the Lone Star state, I know Guacamole and I sure as hell know spice. I mean seriously, Texas children are sucking jalapeños out of bottles at the ripe age of two. Kid you not.

And its summer and what a better way to celebrate the multicultural melting pot that is Texas than with Guacamole. Using fresh succulent avocados, with all of their healthy yumminess.

Their green flesh begs to be creamed into a spicy dip.

Cut them in half and squeeze them out of their dark husky shell into a fabulous bowl. This one handcrafted by Rosalie Knaack.

Then add three diced cherry tomatoes to the mix.

Then add juice from half of a fresh squeezed lemon.

Then add 1/2 teaspoon of course black pepper and cayenne pepper for the spice and 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt. Then mix it all up.

And Voila! Texas Spicy Guacamole... enjoy!!

Ingredients:

1 whole Avocado (ripe and soft)
3 Cherry Tomatoes (diced)
juice from a 1/2 of a lemon
1/2 teaspoon Coarse Black Pepper
1/2 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper
1/4 teaspoon Sea Salt

Follow the instructions above.

Getting Fit both Mentally, Spiritually, and Physically

28 July 2013
As I wrote in March, I am working on becoming more healthy in my life all around because I believe being fit is not just a physical thing it is an all around mind, body, and soul thing. If your heart isn't in it, it just won't work.

So I woke up a bit sore this morning from my yoga session on Google Hangouts with the amazing Kathy Nguyen who is a yoga instructor and future nurse, so she knows all about the mental, spiritual, and physical aspects of getting in shape. And bonus, she teaches online sessions for those jetsetters who do not wish to go through the stress of finding a gym while traveling and she is worth every penny. The first session she focuses on breathing, meditation and sustaining poses.

Despite the fact that I had four animals running around me while I did my session (I'm pet sitting), at the end I was so relaxed and I slept like a baby. Make sure to check her out if you are serious about your health. You can have a personal session from anywhere in the world.

Another thing I am doing is getting my eating under controls, so I joined this free video session of Primal Cooking that will include my dear friend and mentor from the Gluten-Free School Jennifer Fugo.  The seminar is free and you will learn how to cook healthy and learn about primal eating and cooking. You can sign up for the seminar here.

All in all, I am in a good place and I am 32 days away from embarking on my next journey. I will write all about that soon because I am hoping to meet some of you as I travel. But until then, here are some recent pictures of some the delicious and nutritious food that I have been whipping up in the kitchen.

I will be sure to post the recipes in this upcoming week.

Dior Fall 2013/14

I am on vacation for the next week and then I will have 25 days left before I scoot out of South Korea. I will be spending the week putting together my Fall collection which is coming along swimmingly as well as catch up on my favorite bloggers' blogs.

While surfing the net to preview all of the Fall trends, I ran across the Dior Collection for Fall 2013 and fell in lust. The shoes alone make me swoon. Now granted, the only things Dior that I can afford at the moment are perfumes, sunglasses and lipstick, that won't stop me from bringing these beautiful fashions to you. I must add, that I want that shoe handbag and the eyewear, like for real. This collection is all black, white, red and mysterious. It capitalizes on the 40s with a dash of the 60s. It is the New New Look in all of its modern appeal. It is so Parisian chic, that I cannot take my eyes off it. So, check out what Dior is doing these days without Galliano.

Chic Inspiration: Helen Mirren

23 July 2013
This past weekend I went to see RED 2 starring Helen Mirren, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Mary Louise Parker and Bruce Willis. It was a fantastic movie that had me laughing until I cried. What's more, the women in the movie stole the show. Mostly, Helen "Siren" Mirren stole the show.

Not only is she bodacious, the woman has broken every boundary that Hollywood has carefully constructed when it concerns women and beauty. At 67--soon to be 68, Helen Mirren has played roles time and again that would have gone to actresses 1/3 of her age. How does she do it? She just doesn't give a damn.

Helen and her curvaceous physique has not changed much since she was in her thirties and at 67, she still looks amazing in a bikini...

and with pink hair.....

She is the ultimate Femme Fatale and I think I may just name a piece from my collection after her. Helen is the picture of age defying beauty, a woman who will not let other's standards affect how she sees or carries herself. So my inspiration today is the love Dame Helen Mirren, née, Ilyena Lydia Vasilievna Mironoff.

Summer Reading: The Mortal Instruments

18 July 2013
While perusing Google last week, looking for movies opening this year I ran across this movie, based on the series, The Mortal Instruments penned by Cassandra Clare.

I am one of the biggest Sci-Fi, supernatural geeks you will ever meet. So any program or movie that leans toward this genre immediately gets my attention. AND THEN HE WALKED IN ON THE SCREEN. Ok, I feel like a bit of a pedophile because he is probably younger than my youngest cousins, but I have thought Jamie Campbell Bower was hot since I watched him on Camelot on BBC. But whatevs, dude is hella sexy in that androgynous sort of way.

And then I saw my other Irish crush, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, who I have been in love with since Bend it Like Beckham and The Tudors-- what can I say, I love the Celts.  I know I HAVE to see this movie.

And Irish Aidan Turner, from Being Human UK, is also in it.. Squeals..

Anyhoo, since the movie doesn't come out for another month,  I decided to read the first book to prepare me for it. That was Saturday. Six days later, I am now on book 4 in the series. The books rock and they are so awesome and I am terrified to go see the movies because they may not live up to the books. But the eye candy, the eye candy will draw me in. I know. I am a slut. But a little lust never hurt anyone.

The books are amazing, action, suspense, mystery, supernatural things, romance, lust. There are also werewolves, angels, demons, vampires, faeries, and warlocks in this series as well. It is a great young adult series, but like Harry Potter was originally for teens, I believe that adults would inevitably love these books.

So if you are looking for something to read this summer, and you are a Sci-Fi/Supernatural geek like myself, then you will love this series.

Style Inspiration: Hedy Lamarr

11 July 2013
Yes, I am still admiring the silver screen actresses of the 40s. They were so feminine, so tough, so sensually beautiful. Those women understood the power of their femininity. And Hedy LaMarr was one such star. This Austro-America siren was born Hedwig Eva Maria Keisler into a "Jewish haute buorgeoirsie" family in Vienna, Austria-Hungary in 1931.

Not only was she beautiful, she was also an celebrated scientist. She is the mother of wi-fi. She created the basis of the wi-fi code with composer George Antheil in 1942. It was then called the 'frequency-hopping spread-spectrum invention.'
