Beauty of the Week, Kate Winslet

28 November 2011

I believe we all fell in love with this spunky Brit in her turn as Rose in the critically acclaimed film The Titanic. In fact we loved the fact that she was not an heroin thin starlet that loved her body and was comfortable in it.

Fast forward 14 years and Kate is a true star. She is funny, spunky and an amazing actress. We have been there to see her journey from fresh faced Rose to, love sick Iris in The Holiday, and dramatic turn as April in Revolutionary Road and as the seducing older woman, Hannah Schmitz in The Reader for which she won an Oscar.

Kate is beautiful and I look forward to her future work and I am glad that she is a great example for all types of beauty in the media. I love the fact that she became a star despite the fact that many studios in Hollywood told her that she would not ever be in a leading role because she was "fat." Well that "PHAT" makes us proud and I am glad to honor her on this blog.

Kate Winslet's winning look:

Kate Winslet's Make up Look:

1. Take Jumbo pencil and smudge all over eye.
2. Take Mac 266 Brush, angle edge of liner to make it look like a cat eye, make edges crisp with a triangle sponge
3. Take 217 Brush and blend liner in crease
4. Take a lip brush and blend Viva Glam Gaga and viva Glam V together to get the blushy nude lip (for darker skin add a skin color lip liner to keep lips from looking like they are floating)

Colored Denim F/W 2011

26 November 2011
Good morning chicklets! I hope your Saturday has been great so far--its raining here--and will continue to get better. First I must wish my good friend Adriana of Belo Horizonte and big Happy Birthday! Whoot. Its the big 3-0, 80s BABY!

Speaking of the 80s, a trend--that is not so horrible--has resurfaced from the 80s, colored denim and bright colors. I think this trend was one of the only thing 80s fashion got right. Pair it with some animal print and bright colored leather gloves and we have an updated version of a 30 year old trend. Enjoy! I must get back to updating my blog and preparing for a coffee tasting party tonight! Whoot!

Look of the Day- Rachel Weisz Inspired Look

18 November 2011

I have been in love with this Rachel Weisz inspired look since I saw it in Instyle in November 2006. Crazy enough it is such a classic look that it is still relevant today.

The Black Watch Tartan--Clan Campbell-- skirt is by Ralph Lauren. And I love the 40s silhouette to the outfit. I decided to recreate this look below.  To dress up the sweater I think it would an elegant flair to remove the original buttons and sew on these Pearl Buttons with Rhinestone Trim from MJtrim.com. Enjoy.

Beauty Tip of The Week--Ganoderma Lucidum

Good morning chicklets!

It has been a busy two weeks for yours truly but I must I am having the time of my life. Today I am bringing you two blog posts. One on beauty and one on fashion trends so get ready and then I must get out and roll, I am building a global coffee and health and wellness business.. Man does it feel good to say that.

Today's post is about skin care. How to get that beautiful youthful skin that people are going unnecessarily under the knife for. But, you do not have to. I have stumbled upon an ancient secret that has been around for 4,000 years in China and now that is being made available to the masses. In fact, this secret was once only reserved for Chinese royalty because it was so rare and if you were caught trying to reproduce it your hands were cut off.

This secret is called ganoderma lucidum or lingzhi in Chinese. It is a red mushroom that grew on trunks of a particular tree that grew in China. It is also known as the miracle herb because ingesting it did miracles to the body. But today I will be talking about using it topically.

Retail: $15
Ganoderma lucidum means "bright shiny skin" in latin and it does just that. It unclogs pores, retards aging (according to recent studies) and gives your skin that bright youthfulness we all seek. I have been using the Organo Gold Beauty bar for the last three weeks and I have noticed that my skin is brighter--the dullness has disappeared-- and the scarring that I had from acne and ingrown hairs have lightened.

Another friend of mine stated that her "facial growth has slowed and the hair is growing in finer." And the other stated that "the dry patches of skin on her face are clearing up and her skin is more moisturized."

This bar can be used all over the body as well. It is made with all organic high quality ingredients, no chemicals and it is infused with 100% certified organic ganoderma lucidum.

If you do not want to take my word for the importance of this ancient secret maybe you will listen to Yves Saint Laurent who created a new line called Temps Majeur. This line is infused with ganoderma lucidum as well. The cost is 10-20x more expensive but it is the same herb.
Temps Majeur Supreme Creme, $375

Serum Concentrate, $225- $336

Cleansing Balm, $65

70s Urban Chic Fall 2011

15 November 2011

The air is crisp and the leaves are bursting colors of rust, goldenrod and brown signifying that Autumn is here and just as the physical seasons have changed, fashion has also transitioned into another season.

Usually Autumn fashion is riddled with dark somber colors, heavy fabrics and crisps lines but this season we are bringing in deeper hued brights and beautiful jewel tones to spice it up a bit.

And as they always say, nothing every goes out of style it always returns even better. This A/W 2011 we are seeing a nod toward 70s urban style, Studio 54 and Bohemian Chic.

70s Urban Chic was a response to Woodstock, rock 'n' roll and freedom movements all over the world. It saw the creation of bell bottom jeans, pussybow blouses and velvety blazers along with stunning platform wedge heels, thank you Ferragamo.

Studio 54 made its mark in the late 70s and was all about extravagance; fur wraps and coats, mini skirts, floor length chiffon dresses a la the 1930s and sequins.

And lastly, bohemian chic aka Hippie chic, has never truly gone out of style, it usually pops in summer fashion but this year the fashion industry has figured out a way to incorporate it into the cooler months ahead.

Whatever your style is, there is a movement for you this fall. You can go from day time casual to night time fun just by adding a cropped blazer and smokey eye or red lip.

Fall is the season to make it sexy by covering it up and leaving almost everything to the imagination.
